Underwater Media Task

Two students did an amazing job today gathering footage of a Stream using various Media devices during Outdoor Pursuits, it's worth a watch!




Pupils aimed to film the different motions of the stream water and the features within the stream. These included faster flowing stream water, the slower current, water flowing out of pipes, the features within the water such as the bed of the stream, its rocks, its bank, and more. 

Students also took photos of staff dogs and what they were getting up to whilst out with the pupils!

Mid 1 Breakfast Cooking

Mid 1 enjoyed doing some Breakfast  Cooking today, even when the weather was a bit drizzly!


Students shared out roles and began the lesson by layering up the fire-pit with cardboard before safely lighting a cotton bud with the flint and steel. 
Pupils then added wood, and before you know it they were cooking up a storm!

Primary 3 Geocaching

Primary 3 have also been Geocaching recently.

Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity that involves finding hidden boxes called 'caches' by following an interactive app which uses GPS signals and coordinates.

Each pupil gets given the chance to navigate towards a 'cache' using the app and gets to act as the leader of the team

Once the team find the cache, students get to see whats inside, read who has previously found the cache, as well as getting to write that Riversides found it too!




Primary 3 Outdoor Media


Primary 3 used a Flip Camera today to form a fun cross-curricular link with Outdoor Education and Media. 

Pupils for example filmed an Outdoor Weather Song which they created whilst walking, as well as gathering footage of Muddy Puddle Jumping!





                                     

Students also captured images and footage of clouds, trees, fallen leaves, beautiful views, and more.

Primary 1 Fort Building and Adventure Play

Primary 1 today:

- Engaged in a 'monkey bar' hanging challenge where each student was timed.

- Created a point scoring target game involving teams successfully throwing discs through the blue play netting.

- Built a Fort which became an 'army base' for their imaginary army game.



- Created a 'medic tent' to use for their army game.

Year 10 Forest School



A quick impromptu lesson in the forest school area. 

The children learnt how to use an axe, chop wood safely, as well as how to dismantle pallets without breaking the wood.
They even repaired the tyre swing.





A good mornings work, WELL DONE!

Year 10 Zombie Parkour

Year 10 created a game during their lesson called 'Zombie Parkour'.





Student's discussed and made their own rules for the game, created tactics to win, and developed upon their fundamental movement skills by playing a fun filled game where they had to parkour away from the Zombie who was tasked with tagging everyone else.




Mid 3 Water Investigation

Mid 3 used the Go Pro's to investigate various bodies of Water and the differences they could see. 




 Students described the water as:
 - smelly
- dirty
- couldn't see anything
- merky
- polluted

Outdoor Ed Sport Relief

Year 10 had a go at Football Golf today in aid of Sport Relief week!




Fishing Fridays

Out on the lake again!

We've been catching a whole mix of fish today; Bream, Roach, Rudd, Perch and Carp! 



We'll be heading back to school to make some graphs that will track our progress.

Mid 2 Sports Relief

Some difficult challenges today for Mid 2

Flipping tires, lifting giant logs and setting time records with endurance games.



All in the name of Sports Relief!




Mid 2 Veg Patches!




Mid 2 making Vegetable patches! Chopping up and measuring out pallets. Fingers crossed we'll have veg in the spring to look at plant germination!





Mid 1 Forest Camp

Mid 1 Valley Exploration

Mid 1 spent time exploring a Valley, its Sandstone Rocks, and found the Horses & a Ladybug earlier on today! 









Primary 3 Pooh Sticks, Paddling, and Go pro

Primary 3 played Pooh Sticks on a Weir today,
Paddled in their Wellies upon some River Shingle, and used the Go Pro to capture some underwater footage!







Year 10 Problem Solving


Year 10 did some Problem Solving over at Habberley Valley.

Students were challenged to fit as many class members onto the tree stump as possible, and to stay on the stump for 30 seconds without falling off.


 Pupils also had to balance themselves along a log and get into certain orders without falling off i.e. height order, shoe size order, age order etc. sometimes without being able to talk to each other!

Primary 2 went Geocaching today and managed to find 3 caches!

Primary 1 have loved making Hot Chocolate, Pancakes, and Building Tyre Seats!




Scavenger Hunt

Students have been enjoying participating in a Scavenger Hunt in the woods. Classes had to find various woodland things!

Puddle Challenge

Pupils at the school love a puddle jumping challenge!



WW2 Army Base Navigation

Classes have been navigating around a Nature Reserve that was once a US Army Camp in WW2. They had to use the map to get to each location.
