Year 7B exploring Bewdley Museum and Severn Valley Train Station

 

• The pupils enjoyed looking around a variety of historic artifacts in Bewdley Museum where they saw old models of wooden buildings, what type of clothes people use to wear if they were classed as royalty, how people use to sign themselves in for work by using their badge to scan a clock which would record the time they arrived as well as standing to watch the operated movements of a workers machine. The pupils also showed an interest in exploring the findings of the stones that people years ago would use to build the structure of their houses and manufacture buildings. They also enjoyed working in a pair to figure out how the puzzle pieces fitted together to create a picture of an old red fire engine. Continuing to walk one of the pupils saw a pile of black blocks and enjoyed building their own building as they demonstrated to their peer "this is the building from minecraft". 

• After the museum the pupils went to an ice cream shop where they chose what flavour ice cream they would like by visually seeing the flavours displayed in two freezer tubs. One of the pupils talked about the experience saying "I liked watching as the lady scooped up the ice cream and put it into the cone" when another pupil spoke about their favourite part of the ice cream saying "I just like to eat my ice cream really quickly so it's all gone". We then walked towards the river and sat on the steps as a class while the pupils showed their interest in eating the ice creams out of a cone or in a small tub as one pupil said "I have a really tiny spoon with mine". 
  
  
  
  
  
  

• Next we went to explore the Severn Valley railway station where the pupils explored the environment by walking along the tracks as they talked about how the trains from the older times look different to how they look now. The pupils showed an interest in watching the trains arrive into the station by sitting on the platform. One of the pupils had a conversation with a train member about where the trains last stop was and showed an interest in learning further with developing their understanding with how long the trains have been running for and how far of a distance do they travel such as "do these trains go to different countries like Russia or Germany".

The pupils walked along Bewdley river looking and talking about the sights they could see such as "look there are swans they sound like penguins" and "the river looks really high, I couldn't swim that, it is too deep". The pupils then went to the museum where one of the pupils enjoyed talking about all of the equipment and machinery that were used many, many years ago and what they were used for like "this is a water engine that used to process hot water and deliver the supplies to people". The pupil also enjoyed exploring the variety of resources to make their own arch and puzzle that looked just like the water engine. The pupils then enjoyed going for a walk around Bewdley centre as we talked about how the buildings look different to now a days and what sweet shops used to look like and how the sweets are so different and after had the chance to taste the different flavoured and shape sweets.

The pupils walked to the top of the hill talking about the view they could see such as "look there are loads of houses, they look small from here". The pupils enjoyed getting to the top as they had a picture taken of them standing on the state. A couple of the pupils said "it is really cold up here, look at my hands they are red". As we were walking back to the minibus the pupils found different ways to travel back down the hills for example; walking along the path, or tip toeing over the stones along the banks that went up and down. One of the pupils started to talk about history saying "do you think dinosaurs were here a million years ago". We then talked about where the dinosaurs might have been living saying that in those times it would of just been grass and no houses and the pupil said "can you see those holes in the hill, that could of been the caves they slept in". 

Underwater Media Task

Two students did an amazing job today gathering footage of a Stream using various Media devices during Outdoor Pursuits, it's worth a watch!

Pupils aimed to film the different motions of the stream water and the features within the stream. These included faster flowing stream water, the slower current, water flowing out of pipes, the features within the water such as the bed of the stream, its rocks, its bank, and more. 

Students also took photos of staff dogs and what they were getting up to whilst out with the pupils!
