using tools to make Christmas reindeer's with Year 7A

The pupils showed an interest in making their own reindeer's using the natural resources of sticks, logs and pine cones for the body, legs and head. The pupils listened well to all safety instructions and rules given. The pupils took it turns to have a go at sanding each of log for their reindeer's body making sure the edges were smooth. Then the pupils had a go at holding the drill with either one or both hands, with teacher support, making "four" holes for the legs. After the pupils each used the hot glue gun to pump two blobs into all of the holes to glue the sticks and then the pine cone down for the reindeer's head.

The pupils worked together to help one another find the right size sticks as one held the stick and the other used the cutters to cut it in half. One of the pupils, as their reindeer was finished, enjoyed decorating it with different coloured paints. After the lesson the pupils feedback to if they had enjoyed making their reindeer's was "yes I liked painting mine" and "it was OK. I liked making my reindeer I just want to keep it wooden".
