sand sculptures and tracker with Year 7B

The pupils enjoyed making their own sand sculptures either using their hands or sticks which they worked together in pairs to go and find a variety of sticks that were big or small. One of the pupils started to draw a circle in the sand and then decided to sit in the middle of it. They said "I am going to dig a really deep hole". Another pupil said that they had made "the malvern hills". The pupils then showed an interest in walking to the top of the hills and then rolling down it. The pupils worked together to help one another reach the top. As we got back down the pupils enjoyed playing a couple games of tracker.

hartlebury common with Year 7A

The pupils showed an interest in building their own sand sculptures. One of the pupils said "I am making tunnels to the Antarctic". The pupils also enjoyed going to find sticks and leaves to decorate their sculptures. Another pupil came over to the sand pit area carrying a big branch with leaves on it and said they were "making their own tree" as they started to use their feet to push the branch into the sand. A couple of pupils enjoyed playing a big game of noughts and crosses. Near the end of the lesson the pupils showed an interest in playing a couple games of tracker as they hid in pairs or groups in a variety of places such as: behind trees and bushes.

The pupils enjoyed finding sticks and using them to create marks in the sand. The pupils worked together to make their own patterns and shapes. A couple of the pupils said that they were making "a big massive hole to sit in" as they took it in turns to bang and scoop the sand with their sticks. We then went for a walk to the top of the hills in two groups to see who could get there the quickest. As we got to the top, two of the pupils showed an interest in having a running race to the bottom of the hill and back up.

The pupils enjoyed the activity of making their own sand sculptures. The pupils worked together in a team well as they said that they were making "tunnels". After we went for a walk around Hartlebury Common as we walked to the top of the hills and talked about what sights we could see. As we got back to the sand areas the pupils showed an interest in continuing to add more to their sand sculptures saying that the tunnels were from "mine craft, I make them on the game all of the time". One of the pupils enjoyed playing a game of noughts and crosses with the staff.

The pupils showed an interest in walking along the paths which led around the country park. The pupils enjoyed climbing to the top of the banks. Halfway through our journey one of the pupils saw a bench and said that they wanted to sit to look at the view. The pupils also showed an interest in walking through the forest areas in a variety of movements. After the walk the pupils said that they were looking forward to cooking the food when we got back to the minibus. The pupils took it in turns to cook bacon and enjoyed eating it as a sandwich.

Creation with Year 8

The pupils listened well as the instructions and safety rules were explained and put all of the safety clothing on such as helmets. The pupils showed an interest in moving up, down and round on the skate ramps using scooters and skateboards. The pupils enjoyed helping each other by demonstrating what actions to take with setting off and stopping on a skateboard.

As we got to the woods the pupils enjoyed playing on the park. The pupils showed an interest in working together in a group to spin one of the pupils around to see how fast the swing could go. The pupils also enjoyed running up and down on the slide having a competition to see who could get to the top the quickest. After we started to walk inside the woodland area where the pupils showed an interest in climbing to the top of trees, seeing what insects they could find in the streams and exploring through the forest areas using a variety of actions such as walking through Brussels and diving into the bushes. The pupils said that they were going to move through the forest like Bear Grylls.

Frisbee golf with 7B

The pupils showed an interest in playing a game of Frisbee golf after listening well to the instructions of how to play. The pupils chose to put themselves in one group and worked together by taking it in turns to see how many throws it would take them to get the Frisbee into the 9 various baskets which were placed all around the grass and woodland areas. The pupils also used the map to read where each of the baskets were plotted as they looked for the numbers from 1-9.

As we started to walk through the woods one of the pupils spotted some trees and asked what they were for. We began to talk about what fruit were on the trees and which animals they think would like to eat them. As we got to the woodland area the pupils enjoyed playing the game tracker as they found various places to hide such as, behind a tree, in a bush. The pupils showed an interest in using the walkie talkies to communicate between one another and worked together in a team to help get each person back to base. While we were walking back the pupils enjoyed having running races to see who was the quickest between pupils and staff and enjoyed jumping and walking through puddles.

The pupils showed an interest in shooting rubber arrows at a target with the numbers 6-10. The pupils tried to see who could get the highest score and then worked together to try and beat their score as a group. The pupils positioned themselves in high and low stances when shooting the arrows. After we played a game of target where the pupils had to shoot from different distances according to the colour of the cone. The levels got harder each time. The pupils enjoyed taking turns to try and get their arrow to stick onto the target from the various stages.

The pupils listened well to all safety rules and instructions given about how to start a fire. The pupils showed an interest in making their own hot chocolate. The pupils sat and watched as the demonstration of how to use a flint was shown and after enjoyed using the flint to get the fire going. The pupils then worked together to hold the kettle over the fire and watched as the water started to bubble. After the pupils enjoyed drinking their hot chocolate. At the end of the lesson the pupils talked about how to put a wooden and electric fire out and what was the difference between the two. The pupils said that you use "water for the wooden fire" and "a foam fire extinguisher to put out a electric fire". We then talked about what would happen if you put water with electric.

walk around Arrow Valley County Park with Primary 3

The pupils enjoyed picking up sticks for a class project and exploring the forest areas of arrow valley by walking over bridges and working together to fish out little sticks from out of the stream using the big sticks that they had found. The pupils showed an interest to looking at the variety of animals swimming in the lake and talking about the different colours of ducks and geese and why they dunk their heads into the water. One pupil said "it is because they are washing themselves" when another said "they are looking for fish to eat". After we walked around the lake inside arrow valley the pupils enjoyed playing on the exercise equipment, swinging on the swings and climbing to the top of the climbing frame.

The pupils showed an interest in walking halfway up the Castle Morton hills. As we got to the quarry the pupils enjoyed throwing rocks and sticks to see how far they could throw it and who could throw the furthest. One of the pupils found a long stick and turned it into different items such as a hockey stick, golf club, microphone and dancing stick. When we got back to the minibus the pupils enjoyed cooking bacon, sausages and eggs on a gas stove. One of the pupils prepared the food saying "I am the chef".

Year 8 at Tiddesley Woods

As we got to the woods the pupils enjoyed climbing trees to reach apples. The pupils then enjoyed eating the apples they had found as we talked about if they were cooking apples and if they were sweet or sour. The pupils showed an interest in playing tracker finding various place to hide such as behind a wooden hut, next to a bush. After playing a few games the pupils asked if they could use our staff's walkie talkies to communicate to one another as they went exploring through the forest and tree areas. 

Frisbee golf with Year 9

The pupils split themselves into two groups and listened well to the instructions given on how to play the game Frisbee golf. A few of the pupils said they knew how to play it because they had done it before. The pupils enjoyed trying to get the Frisbee into each 9 basket's counting and writing down how many times it took them. We then tally-ed all of the numbers together for each group to see what the total scores were and who scored the lower number. After the pupils enjoyed having a go on the exercise equipment's, playing on the swings and climbing frame.

The pupils showed an interest in collecting sticks, logs, leaves and grass to make their own hut. The pupils listened well to the Year 11 pupil who instructed the whole activity and had knowledge of what steps to take to create the hut. The Year 11 pupil talked about their experiences of making huts in Outdoor Education when they were the age of Year 7B. The pupils enjoyed making different parts of the hut such as base, walls and roof. The pupils enjoyed learning which sticks and logs are stable and which ones aren't and what thickness of each log should be. They then tested out what they had learnt by banging the log up against a tree to see how strong it was. After the pupils showed an interest in playing a few games of tracker. 

Worcester woods with Year 7A

The pupils showed an interest in making a hut using sticks, logs and leaves. The pupils enjoyed walking around the wooded area to collect the various resources and worked together to build the base of the hut. As the pupils were exploring they enjoyed using the walkie talkies to communicate with one another with who was going to pick up the sticks and leaves and who was going to place the resources together. After the pupils enjoyed playing tracker as they found various places to hide.

The pupils enjoyed learning the different techniques to fencing and after were put into pairs to see what they had learnt. The pupils listened well to the instructions given for how to use the various equipment's. The pupils showed an interest in wearing the safety body and head armour and using the rubber swords to fence one another. After the lesson the pupils showed an interest in playing basketball.

The pupil enjoyed finding a variety of leaves. We talked about the sizes and colours of each leaf that was found. We then played a game of finding 5 leaves where we worked out using our fingers how many leaves we would have left. The pupil then enjoyed climbing on the climbing frame and getting from the start of the obstacle to the end seeing who could get there the quickest between pupil and staff.

The pupils walked along the racecourse and road well as they listend to all instructions given. As we got to the park the pupils showed an interest in climbing to the top of the climbing frame playing the game I am the king of the Castle and sliding down the slides seeing which different ways they could slide down. The pupils showed an interest in taking part in the obstacle course timing how long it took them to complete it. While we were walking back we noticed some red and white flags in the middle of the racecourse. The pupils showed an interest in going to see what the flags were for. As we got to the flags the pupils read on a stand that it was for COVID 19 and NHS staff.

The pupils showed an interest in walking to Sainsbury's to collect the food they would be cooking. The pupils enjoyed starting a campfire with the resources of paper, wood and a lighter. One of the pupils enjoyed cooking sausages on the campfire. The pupil said that they had done cooking before and they were like Bear Grylls. The pupils after showed an interest in cooking bacon and beans. The pupils enjoyed eating the food they had made.

The pupils showed an interest in cooking bacon, sausages and eggs on a campfire or gas stove. The pupils acknowledged what the safety rules were when starting a fire. The pupils worked well together in small groups with one group cooking the food on the stove and the other using wood, paper and a lighter to get the fire going. The pupils after enjoyed eating the variety of foods.

The pupils found different ways to travel through the woods such as through the forest or along the path. The pupils enjoyed chopping down trees using their feet and carrying branches to make a hut. The pupils placed each branch they had found onto a tall tree. They said it was for the base of the hut. The pupils showed an interest in climbing trees to collect a variety of fruits such as apples and pears.

The pupils showed an interest in the forest school classroom where they prepared a fire with logs, paper and a lighter. The pupils enjoyed finding a stick for their marshmallow and placing it in the middle of the flames. The pupils were shown and talked through the safety rules for using a stove to make their own cup of tea or hot chocolate. The pupils showed an interest in pouring the water from the metal jug into their mugs and stirring the tea bag or hot chocolate powder around. The pupils enjoyed dunking a biscuit into their drink.

The pupils enjoyed using the walkie talkies to communicate to one another as they went around the park to locate the numbers 1-8 which were hidden in various areas such as on the bridge, in the middle of the tree. The pupils wrote down where each of the numbers were placed. The pupils enjoyed following and looking at the map.

The pupils enjoyed holding bows and arrows and shooting them into targets that had the numbers 6-10 on them. The pupils listened well to the instructor who demonstrated the safety rules by showing them how to hold and stand in a safe position. The pupils shot arrows from different yards which were either close and far away from the targets. The pupils then enjoyed playing a game of arrow golf where they had to get their arrow from one end of the playground to the other.
