This blog highlights the wealth of activities the children at Riversides School experience during their weekly Outdoor Education lessons. The range of opportunities coupled with the diverse settings we visit enable the children to explore and engage in learning in a wide variety of ways. This also allows for cross curricular links to ICT, English, Science and Maths.

making hot chocolate with Primary 2
The pupils listened well to all safety rules and instructions given about how to start a fire. The pupils showed an interest in making their own hot chocolate. The pupils sat and watched as the demonstration of how to use a flint was shown and after enjoyed using the flint to get the fire going. The pupils then worked together to hold the kettle over the fire and watched as the water started to bubble. After the pupils enjoyed drinking their hot chocolate. At the end of the lesson the pupils talked about how to put a wooden and electric fire out and what was the difference between the two. The pupils said that you use "water for the wooden fire" and "a foam fire extinguisher to put out a electric fire". We then talked about what would happen if you put water with electric.
