walking around Tiddesley Woods with Year 8

The pupils showed an interest in walking around Tiddesley Woods with one of the pupils remembering events from a previous experience when visiting the woods as they described "is this where the tree with all of the apples was" and continued to explain further about that event where one of their peers climbed the tree branches to retrieve one of the apples. As we stated to walk the teacher lead the pupils through a grassy area of the woods where they gathered the group together and explained the rules of how to play a ball game which included a ball and where the pupils and staff members would need to circle around it. The teacher continued to explain that the aim of the game was for one of the pupils or staff members to retrieve the ball in the middle while their peers begin to run and hide with the goal of not getting caught out. When someone had the ball they would be on and their role would be to go and catch their peers out by throwing the ball towards the bottom part of their bodies.

After the pupils had played a few rounds of the game we walked back towards the tree which they had seen at the start of the walk. One of the pupils enjoyed collecting different coloured flowers. They identified pink, yellow, white and also recognised "this flower has two colours on it, it has pink in the middle and white on the outside". On our way back we also saw a field full of sheep which the pupils showed an interest in taking a closer look. One of the pupils pointed and said "that sheep is going on an adventure as they are further away from the others". In the middle of the path we then noticed a sign in between the grass and as a group the pupils gathered to look at and read information about the Tiddesley Woods and it's animal habitats.
